Final Exhibition Reflection

We had our exhibition night on Wednesday, 6th of November. The exhibition night was so fun. The hall was nearly full that you could not see anything.

When we first started exhibition, we had to choose a topic. I chose Climate Change because I knew some facts about climate change and I waned to find out more. Also, climate change saw is not just in one place, it is all around the world. In the tuning in stage, we had to write our central idea and lines of inquiry. My central idea was “ progress impacts community”. We had other central ideas that we could of used, but this one was the best. My first line of inquiry was and inquiry into climate change patterns, my second one was and inquiry into what cause climate change, my last on was an inquiry into how climate change effect things.

After we finished the tuning in stage, we went onto finding out. We also met our mentor teacher . My mentor teacher was my senior string teacher and we had the meetings in her music room. When we were researching the questions we wrote, we had to write down references. I found a lot of useful information like how climate change effects animals. We had to have a Primary source. My primary source was a person called Dr Phillip Roetman and we wrote a E-mail to him. On our E-mail, we wrote six questions that we couldn’t find the answer to or we needed more information to and we got a six page response from him!!!!

We had to make fact sheets after we found out information. The fact sheets goes in our wall we were going to have at the exhibition evening. I decided that my fact sheets were a little to plain so, I printed the fact sheets and added some decoration to it. It looked much better after. We also had other stuff like our art posters, our poems that we had to write, our 2 graphs that we created and little facts like “ Did you know that little changes in your house can make a difference?” Or “do you know what climate change is?”

We had to take action for our topic so my friend and I did a pledge which is when you promise something like using less hot water, growing a plant in your backyard, turn of electric devices when not in use or have a plastic free lunch box. You choose one of those to do and sign your name on a big piece of A3 card with the colour that is presented next to it. You get a little sticker depending on which colour you signed and then, the people who received the stickers can attract people to come to our stall. It was very successful because we got every that came to our stall to sign it and the page they signed their names on is covered signatures.

On the night, I was talking a lot of parents. During, we went over to the hall to set up our stall. We had to hang up our fact sheets, our art poster that what does made in art and much more. After that, we went to our stalls and half of the class pretended to be the friends and parents that were gong to come on the night. My friend bought in fairy lights and we turned them on once the parents came in. We also had some flowers on our desk to decorate it and we had a blue cloth since the table is all white and dull.

Exhibition will be a event that I will never forget.

Exhibition Week 9

This week, we have been making fact sheets for each line of inquiry we wrote and answered. So far I have done 2 fact sheet but we still need to read over the text and see if it makes sense. We have also been writing poems for our issue. We are not allowed to write acrostic poems because there to easy. I am stuck on writing a poem but I hope 🤞 I will think 💭 of one soon.

We have nearly finished our dance. You might know what our story is but for people who don’t know, it is heat vs cold. We just need to finish the ending and video it.

We have been making posters in art and making music for the exhibition in music. We haven’t started making the music since we had other things like ICAS so we will be starting soon. I can’t wait to start 😀.

Exhibition Week 7

Finding out

This week, when I was finding out, I found out that I didn’t have a primary source, so my teacher gave me one since he knows lots of people. I wrote my letter a few days ago, so our teacher could email him. On the email, we wrote questions that we couldn’t find the answer but we haven’t received a email back yet. My other sources were some websites like WWF and National Geographic. WWF had lots of information because it is about animals and one of my questions was “why are animals dying” and “how is climate change effecting animals”. Besides using using the iPads, I also used books to find out information like what is climate change or what are greenhouse gases.

Sorting out

We have also been sorting out. Sorting out is when we sort out our information into information we need and information we don’t need. My sorting out went ok but I didn’t get a lot done because I hadn’t answered all my questions.

Going Further

When I finished sorting out, we went on with going further. Going further is when we finish sorting out and see if we have anything that we didn’t answer. I realised that I hadn’t answer all my questions, so I went to websites and books to find out more. I am hoping to find out more next week or when I get home for independent study.

Tuning in reflection

During tuning in for exhibition, we wrote our lines of inquiry, central idea, essential agreement and the know, think, want to know.

My lines of inquiry are an inquiry into climate change patterns, an inquiry into what causes climate change, and an inquiry into how climate change effect things.

I think you heard that my central idea was going to be communities struggle when change occurs, but I changed it to progress impacts communities.

I had to write my essential agreement with my partner and then we had to sign it so it stays like that. The know, think, want to know is when we write the things that I know, the things I want to know and the things I want to know. We wrote the want to know one in a lotus diagram so we could create our lines of inquiry.

We also looked at the approaches to learning, Key concepts and the PYP calendar. In the calendar, we had to write our goals for that day and the driving question for the next lesson.

For the approaches to learning, we used it to write our essential agreement, and it was very useful. The key concept is to help us arrange the questions into different sections and help us write our line of inquiry.

I have to really challenge myself.

Exhibition Week 6

This week, we have been continuing with our research. I am on to the last line of inquiry but I still have to e-mail my primary source. I have searched a lot, but most of the information I found was on the iPad. I also got some books from the library, but it was not much. Some questions are hard to answer because there is not always the answer on one site, so I learnt tat you have to look through multiple site to find answers. I have also worked on it at home for independent study since we get to take our iPad home now. I hope I can answer some more questions.

  1. For our primary source, we couldn’t find one at first, but our teacher told us a person that we could e – mail so we are writing a letter on word to give to our teacher.

We have also chosen our dance for PE (finally) and we are doing a dance fight and it was heat vs cool. It was Patrick’s idea but Indy added some bits. I hope 🤞 we can start our choreography next week.

Week 5 Exhibition reflection

This week for exhibition, we are writing questions on a diagram to make our lines of inquiry. The classroom I am working in is 5S. The teacher help me change a bit of my lines of inquiry, and my lines of inquiry are an inquiry into the climate change patterns, an inquiry into what is causing climate change, and an inquiry into how climate change effect things. We are also dancing our issue in PE. We had to dance in our exhibition classes. My group didn’t work that well because they kept changing the topic. I hope we were better next time and make more progress.

Exhibition introduction

My Year 5 exhibition topic is climate change. I chose it because I like animal especially polar bears, but the ice is melting so there is only a bit of ice. It is also a very interesting topic to do since I don’t know much of it. My transdisciplinary theme is sharing the planet because it is about the planet, and it fits in there the most. I have made up central ideas like communities struggle when change occurs or communities struggle when heat over takes. I think the communities struggle when change occurs because will happen.
