Cube nets

This week, we have been continuing with our 3D shape unit. We have been sketching cube nets and we have learnt that there are only 11 types of nets for cubes. We drew the nets on a math graph which our parents ordered.  We also went on this website were you had to say what net could form a cube and what couldn’t. We used things website to test the nets that we drew and see if they were right.

Graphs

This week for maths, we have been drawing graphs for the 5H birthdays. I drew a graph for 5H birthdays for each month label the y axis and the x axis. To improve, I think I could of used a ruler and colour in better. This is my first one.

For my second one, I used a ruler and I coloured in the rectangles better. The data is still the same but I made it better.

After that, I decided to find out what years were people born in. There was 7 in 2008, 11 in 2009 and 1 in 1980. I showed my teacher and he said that a bar graph wouldn’t be the best graph to do the years in so we suggested a pie graph. A pie graph is a bit trickier because you need to find out the angles of the people. Our teacher helped us make it and this is our pie graph.

Isometric Drawing

Today we went on a site that we could make 3D shapes on.

There was a challenge that you could do. Most of us couldn’t work it out, our teacher, Mr Huebl couldn’t work it out either, so he got some lego blocks and built it with lego instead. It was really fun to build.

We also drew shapes on a piece of paper. We had to draw a rectangular  prism and then we had to draw the things that we built in the challenge. After that, we drew our own thing.

Finding 3D Shapes

We are learning about 3D shapes in maths. With a 3D shape, you can measure volume by multiplying the height by the width by the depth. With a 2D shape, you can measure the perimeter by adding the length to times and the width two times. Yo can also find out the area by multiplying the length by the width. The shapes are similar because they are both shapes and they can both be measured.
